CONTEST RULES

SINGLE MIC COMPETITION:  First prize $250.00. 2nd prize $150.00 Acoustic instruments only are allowed to compete.  A group made up of a minimum four different instruments will compete using a single microphone at the center of the stage.  Groups will perform in the three-tune format: 1. Traditional bluegrass instrumental; 2. Traditional bluegrass vocal; 3. Tune of choice. 

The following criteria will be considered by the judges in the single mic competition and assigned point value in each area:

1. Execution, tuning, fingering, picking and dynamics, strength of vocals (25 points);

2. Arrangement, version of tunes selected, difficulty and originality (25 points);

3. Fluid use of the single mic by all musicians (50 points).

BAND SCRAMBLE: For fun only, no prize money.  Winning "band" is chosen by anonymous judges chosen at random from the audience. Acoustic instruments only are allowed to compete.  Each performer puts his/her name in a container labeled with their instrument of choice.  One name is drawn from each container to form a band.  "Bands" are posted at host camper and will perform in the three tune format 1. Traditional bluegrass instrumental; 2. Traditional bluegrass vocal; 3. Tune of choice.

SONGWRITER: For fun only, no prize money.  Winner is chosen by anonymous judges chosen at random from the audience. Contestants are given a list of words and must use every word on the list at least once to compose a song of choice. Accompaniment used may be acoustic instruments only. An individual is allowed to write a song and have it performed by another person.

Songwriter contest list of words change each year and may be picked up at any time prior to competition from Luanne at the host camper.
